I could not buy the updated version from Steam because (copy/paste from my Steam shopping cart);

This is just for your information, not a complaint.
You didn't have to buy it, It was just an update, so if you already had it, Steam would have downloaded the 2.0 version
You didn't exactly publicise that those who already had the digital guide could just update it/it would update automatically. What a waste of my money! I'm not impressed.
I don't understand what you wrote, doesn't this mean that you pay less money?
If you bought the original guidebook, you do not need to buy the new version of the guidebook, you just have to update it - presumably for free. This was not made clear, however, when they announced the new version.
